Career Planning

The work landscape has changed. There are less full time permanent jobs and few now guarantee job security for life. Is this really a bad thing? Many people continue to work in a job they are not happy in and put up with the consequences. I believe this new landscape presents us with the challenge to take control of our work lives, to pursue, on an on going basis, what we really want to do and how we want to do it. Yes, it forces us outside our comfort zone but the rewards of achievement and satisfaction versus stagnation are great. So whether you are thinking about job transition because your current role is not meeting your needs or like so many, you have  been made redundant through down sizing, this is the time  to get right down to the fundamentals in your work life and give it the attention it deserves.

I help clients to define their talents, interests, strengths and skills and to explore and discover their true purpose and incorporate it into their career. A key part of the process is to help you to understand your personal values and establish the values you want your job to have. Establishing the job values is about identifying what is important to us in our work life, what attributes does the work need to have to suit us and be aligned with our personal values (e.g. autonomy, fun, people interface, variety, work life balance, opportunity for development). With this done we have a reference guide to check all options against.

Having specialised in career coaching, I have also trained and coached a large number of clients in the other key aspects of successful job transition such as CV writing, interview skills, job search and networking. I believe the 2 key ingredients to crafting a quality CV are a strong authentic profile and evidence based strengths, skills and achievements. This approach has given really great results.

In summary our career management process gives you access to a thorough end to end process which will serve you well in pursuing and achieving the ideal career for you. You can also opt for support with specific aspects such as CV writing or interview preparation.

What clients say

“I engaged Philomena at a midpoint in my career when It was time to make a number of decisions about direction. At the very beginning we spent time deciding on the outcomes I was interested in getting from our time and Philomena was excellent at making sure we didn’t lose track during the program. With a robust and strategic career development framework we were able to create a clear 5+ year plan. We did this based off a visioning exercise from our first session that helped to define my end goals.

A key part of our program was to identify the areas of personal development that would help me on my way to achieve these goals and in particular with a view to taking on more senior leadership roles. Philomena’s first-hand experience of working in a large organisation was invaluable when I was discussing particular scenarios that impacted me.

Overall I would highly recommend Philomena as a Career Development Coach to anyone interested in working towards a set of goals. I now feel that I have a forward looking blueprint to help me navigate through my professional life. I also feel with this new clarity that I am able to separate career from personal life thus improving my life balance.”
